The Center and the Colony previously offered Summer Fellowships for poetry, fiction and nonfiction writers during the summer.
Three (3) applicants, each from fiction and nonfiction and five (5) applicants from Poetry (all of 19 years or older), based on merit, were chosen for these in-residence programs. Each successful Fellow’s award covered full tuition and housing for the entire residency. Applications are currently closed.
The Colony’s fellowships are designed to facilitate a balance between a focus on individual work and a forum for discussion among emerging writers.
During our fellowship programs, distinguished writers visited and shared their professional experiences with the Fellows. Past visitors have included Gay Talese, Da Chen, David Margolick, Sonia Sanchez, Don DeLillo, and editors from the New York Review of Books, Playboy and Vanity Fair.
The Fellowship programs were made available to the Colony through Fellowship sponsors and patrons of the Mailer Center..
