Literary Non-Profit Seeks Administrative Director (New York, NY)
The Norman Mailer Center seeks a conscientious, ambitious self-starter with experience in non-profit administration to join our fast-paced New York, NY office as Administrative Director. The A.D. reports to and works closely with our Executive Director on all aspects of the Center’s management: fundraising, program management, new program development, budgeting, event planning.
The Norman Mailer Center honors Mailer’s creative legacy by supporting and celebrating writers who push the envelope and challenge the status quo. Programming includes writing workshops, fellowships, student and teacher writing awards, an annual Benefit Gala and the Mailer Prizes. Our organizational offices in NYC are complemented by our educational facility located in Mailer’s home in Provincetown, MA. Our Director, Lawrence Schiller, was Mailer’s longtime friend and professional collaborator. He co-founded the Center in 2008.
Start date: By June 1, 2012.
Major responsibilities include:
- Fundraising
- Cultivating and stewarding donors; creating and implementing campaigns
- Managing Capital Campaign currently underway (to purchase permanent educational facility)
- Pursuing and managing corporate sponsorships
- Generating reports from fundraising databas
- Programming
- Management and supervision of educational and literary programs in Provincetown, MA and New York, NY
- Liaising with new and returning faculty members
- Event planning
- Planning and managing all aspects of the Annual Benefit Gala (400+ guests)
- Planning and managing small and mid-size events year-round in New York, NY and Provincetown, MA
- Administrative supervision (1 direct report, several interns)
- Liaising between staff members in Provincetown and New York offices
- Liaising with third-party consultants
- Writing copy for NMC literature
- Budgeting

3 or more years experience preferred in:
- Nonprofit administration
- Fundraising/development
- Event planning
- Arts organizations
Compensation: $40,000--$65,000 commensurate with experience.
