2016 Travel & Housing
This year the Center's fellowship program will take place at the Ucross Foundation and Pepperdine University. Ucross is located on the High Plains in northeastern Wyoming and Pepperdine University is located in Malibu, California.
The Ucross Foundation is 27 miles southeast of Sheridan (population 15,000) and 17 miles northeast of Buffalo (population 5,000). The facilities are situated on a 20,000-acre working ranch near the Bighorn Mountains, the easternmost range of the Rockies, in the heart of sheep and cattle ranching country.
The Center's fellowship program for poetry will take place at Pepperdine University which is located just above the beach community of Malibu, California, a 24 mile drive from Los Angeles International Airport to the campus. Apartment housing for the Fellows is located in a private complex just across the road from the Pepperdine Law School where the Fellows will meat and a short walk from the main campus.
Sheridan Airport is served by connecting flights to and from Denver, Colorado. The Ucross Foundation staff picks up arriving Residents at the Sheridan Airport. The Foundation is located 1/2 mile east of the intersection of Highways 14 and 16.
Los Angeles International Airport is served by all airlines. The Pepperdine campus is located just off of Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu, California. Airport shuttles (Prime Time Vans - 1-800-733 8267) are available and all information for travel to and from the airport will be provided to those attending the Poetry Fellowship program. Sunny skies are very common during the month of July at Pepperdine, with very little chance of any rain. Malibu's average high in July is 70, although there have been some warmer summers, and the average low in the evenings is 63.
At Ucross, lasting rain or gray skies are not common any time of year. Sunshine and dry climate make the month of July very enjoyable.
